What are ZIP Codes?
The United States Post Office created the ZIP code system in 1963 to help the postal service track the delivery of mail. The system was originally only used for tracking the delivery of mail, but it has now been adapted to help people with addresses keep track of their shipments as well. The ZIP code system has now become an important part of everyday life in the United States. Most people in the United States have a ZIP code, even if they have never used it for anything.
The term ZIP is an acronym for Zone Improvement Plan. It was chosen to suggest that the mail travels more efficiently and quickly (zipping along) when senders use the code in the postal address.

About Jacksonville, Florida

Jacksonville is the most populous city proper in the U.S. state of Florida, located on the Atlantic coast of northeastern Florida. It is the county seat of Duval County, with which the city consolidated in 1968. It is the tenth-most populous U.S. city with a population of 949,611 at the 2020 census and estimated at over 1 million in 2024, while the Jacksonville metropolitan area at over 1.76 million residents is the fourth-largest metropolitan area in Florida and 38th-largest in the United States. City-county consolidation greatly increased Jacksonville's official population and extended its boundaries, placing most of Duval County's population within the new municipal limits; Jacksonville grew to 900 square miles (2,300 km2). It is the second-largest city by land area in the contiguous United States.
About ZIP code

The ZIP Code system is the system of postal codes used by the United States Postal Service (USPS). The term ZIP was chosen to suggest that the mail travels more efficiently and quickly when senders include the code in the postal address. ZIP+4 is a registered trademark of the United States Postal Service, which also registered ZIP Code as a service mark until 1997, and which claims "ZIP Code" as a trademark though it is not registered.
